Our crews are working with Lewis County and WSDOT in PeEl, WA, in the removal of a Bailey Bridge. PeEl is in western Lewis County so the work will not have an impact on traffic in Thurston County this week. Municipalities will often cooperate on large projects by taking advantage of interlocal agreements to keep costs to the taxpayers lower. This means sharing equipment, and using cooperative buying contracts to get volume pricing (similar to buying at Costco) .

A bailey bridge is a temporary bridge that can be quickly deployed in case of emergency. This bridge was put in place in 2007 when the Chehalis river took out the existing concrete span.
Here is a Chronicle Online youtube video showing the placement of the bridge, and providing a better description of the process.

In other work, our crews are also doing some culvert work on Wright Rd SW. There will be traffic delays, as it is a single lane work zone.
